ICC World T20 2016, stats: England vs Sri Lanka: England beat Sri Lanka to qualify for the semis
England beat Sri Lanka by 10 runs in their Group 1 match at New Delhi. With this win, England joins New Zealand and West Indies in the semi-finals of the World T20. On the other hand, the defending champions Sri Lanka, along with South Africa were knocked out of the World T20.
After putting England into bat, Sri Lanka had the upper hand in the first 15 overs before England fought back and put on 72 runs off the last five overs to score 171 in their 20 overs. Jos Buttler scored 66 off 37 balls for England while Jeffery Vandersay picked up two wickets for 26 runs.
Sri Lanka were off to a disastrous start as they lost their first four wickets inside the third over. Skipper Angelo Mathews, along with Chamara Kapugedera, Thisara Perera and Dasun Shanaka brought his team back in the chase. But his unbeaten 73 was not enough for Sri Lanka to beat England.
