Imran Khan encouraged the bowlers to tamper the ball, says Aamir Sohail
Following a poor show by the Pakistani cricket team in the Champions Trophy, which resulted in their exit from the tournament after losing all their group stage matches, former Pakistani opener Aamir Sohail has launched an attack on the former Pakistani great Imran Khan. Sohail said that the World Cup-winning captain is the man responsible for the current sorry state of cricket in the country.
He said, “I want to say clearly here and for once we must face the truth that Imran is responsible for the state of affairs in our cricket.
“Imran damaged Pakistan cricket by encouraging our bowlers to tamper with the ball. This has led to a culture where we can’t produce good new ball bowlers or quality openers.”
Sohail, 46, was a member of the 1992 World Cup-winning team, which was led by Imran Khan. This statement from him came after Shoaib Akthar suggested earlier that Pakistan need a leader like Imran Khan to turn their fortunes around in these kind of situations.
Akthar said earlier, “Changes have to be made and new players must be brought in and given time to settle down. We have tried the same set of players time and again and they have not delivered in big tournaments.”
