IND vs BAN 2024, 1st Test: India Player Ratings as all-round Ashwin leads hosts to thumping win

Team India coasted to a thumping 280-run in the first Test against Bangladesh on Sunday, September 22. Despite a bit of resistance from the visitors' experienced batters, the home spinners ran through the opposition lineup on the fourth day.

Rohit Sharma and company progressed further in their quest to make the final of the ongoing World Test Championship cycle and are now in an excellent position to complete another home series whitewash. They were troubled at times during the series opener, but got the job done in fairly convincing fashion.

On that note, here are India's player ratings from the first Test against Bangladesh.

IND vs BAN 2024, 1st Test: Ashwin shines at Chepauk

Rohit Sharma: 3/10

Rohit fell cheaply in both innings, with the Bangladesh fast bowlers working him over well. His captaincy was insipid at times, too.

Yashasvi Jaiswal: 7/10

Jaiswal hung in there for a half-century in the first innings, but angle across from over the wicket seemed to have him in trouble at times. His fielding was excellent, and his batting has been encouraging enough on the whole.

Shubman Gill: 8/10

Gill was strangled down the leg-side in the first innings and seemed to be dealing with technical issues. But as has been the case lately, the No. 3 batter stepped up in the second essay with a sublime century. He rarely mistimed a ball on Day 3.

Virat Kohli: 4/10

Kohli just doesn't inspire the same confidence in Tests anymore. Despite playing a few knocks in challenging conditions and rekindling hopes of a prolific revival, he was dismissed cheaply twice in batting-friendly conditions in Chennai. The No. 4 batter needs to sort his issues out before New Zealand and Australia come calling.

Rishabh Pant: 9/10

Pant's comeback to Test cricket couldn't have gone any better as he made important contributions in both innings, including a sensational century in the second. His counter-attacking strokes and middle-order solidity were a welcome sight, and a missed stumping was an aberration in an otherwise tidy performance behind the stumps.

KL Rahul: 5/10

Rahul seemed to be in a decent flow before India's declaration in the second innings. He fell victim to another soft dismissal on Day 1.

Ravindra Jadeja: 9/10

India's MVP in Test cricket, Jadeja quietly helped himself to another assured half-century that helped the team out of trouble. He chipped in with the ball in both innings as well.

Ravichandran Ashwin: 9.5/10

The Chennai lad came up with yet another sensational all-round showing at his home ground to bail India out of trouble. Ashwin smacked the fastest century of his Test career so far and helped himself to six wickets in the second innings to ensure that the game was wrapped up quickly. What a champion player!

Akash Deep: 7.5/10

Deep didn't have much to do, but he swung his bat around and picked up a couple of wickets. His form has been encouraging.

Jasprit Bumrah: 8/10

Bumrah's control perhaps wasn't as good as we've been used to over the last few years, but he did his job. His four-fer in the first innings ensured that Bangladesh were never really in the game.

Mohammed Siraj: 6.5/10

Siraj had a quiet outing in Chennai as he picked up two wickets in a combined 20 overs across the two innings.
