IND vs BAN 2024: 3 players who starred and 2 who flopped in the India vs Bangladesh 1st Test match ft. Ravichandran Ashwin & Virat Kohli

Team India continued their march towards the final of the ongoing World Test Championship cycle as they thrashed Bangladesh by 280 runs in the opening game of the two-match series. A delighted crowd at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai watched on as the hosts got the job done comfortably within four days.

It was a decent display from India, with most of their players contributing to the win. There were some nervy moments at the start of both batting innings, with the Tigers' seamers asking the right questions. However, on the whole, Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir won't be too worried.

Here are three players who starred and two who flopped in the first Test between India and Bangladesh.

#5 Star - Ravichandran Ashwin

Ashwin has developed a fondness for playing in Chennai, and that affinity continued in the first Test against Bangladesh. The veteran all-rounder came up with a superb showing in both departments to take his team to a comfortable win.

With India and a spot of bother in the first innings, Ashwin smacked the fastest Test century of his career so far to bail them out of trouble. While he went wicketless in the first innings, he utilized turning conditions in the second to pick up six wickets, ensuring that the margin of victory was massive.

#4 Flop - Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli has played a few vital knocks in challenging conditions over the last few years, but he somehow hasn't been able to convert his starts into big scores on docile surfaces. In Chennai, despite the pitch being relatively batting-friendly, he couldn't score big in either of his knocks.

A rash drive wide of off brought about Kohli's downfall in the first innings, and he was trapped in front while playing around his pad in the second. While a review would have saved him, the fact that he didn't take one is down to him and him alone.

India need their superstar No. 4 batter to get back to his prolific best soon, with series against New Zealand and Australia on the horizon.

#3 Star - Ravindra Jadeja

Arguably India's most valuable player in the Test format, Ravindra Jadeja quietly helped himself to another half-century and another bagful of wickets in the first Test against Bangladesh. Along with Ashwin, he bailed India out of trouble in the first innings, although a century eluded him.

Jadeja made important contributions with the ball in both innings, supporting Ashwin well and ensuring that Bangladesh were never really in the game. He is truly worth two cricketers at home.

#2 Flop - Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma is arguably the best Test opener in the world right now, but he couldn't get among the runs in the first Test against Bangladesh. The visiting fast bowlers kept him on a leash with some excellent bowling in and around the off stump.

Rohit was troubled by seam movement in both directions. It was a rare Test without a notable knock from the Indian skipper, who wasn't at his proactive best with his captaincy either.

#1 Star - Rishabh Pant

Making his Test comeback after close to two years away from the format, Rishabh Pant was close to his impeccable best in Chennai. He got off to a start in the first innings and was understandably upset at nicking a loose ball through to the keeper, but made up for it in the second with a sensational century.

Pant's wide range of strokes on both sides of the wicket were on full display, and he attacked both pace and spin well. While he did miss a stumping, his keeping was tidy overall. India will be very relieved that their maverick keeper-batter is back in the mix.
