IND vs BAN 2024: 3 players who starred and 2 who flopped in the India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test match ft. Jasprit Bumrah & Mohammed Siraj

Team India continued their march towards the final of the World Test Championship as they beat Bangladesh by seven wickets in Kanpur on Tuesday, October 1. With the win, Rohit Sharma and company sealed the two-match series comfortably.

India now need only three wins in eight matches to make the summit clash for the third cycle running. The upcoming series against New Zealand and Australia will be challenging, and the team will take heart from the fact that most of their side turned in promising displays in the second Test against the Tigers.

On that note, here are three players who starred and two who flopped in the second Test between India and Bangladesh.

#5 Star - Jasprit Bumrah

India's ace speedster turned in yet another incredible performance in Asian conditions as he finished with six scalps, three in each innings, to trouble the Bangladesh batters. Jasprit Bumrah also had the best economy rate among all bowlers from the home side.

On Day 5, Bumrah brought his variations to the fore. He bowled some delightful slower balls, ripped past the outside edge, and hit the yorker at will. Even his regulation deliveries were virtually impossible to play on a pitch that didn't offer much assistance.

#4 Flop - Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant endured a rare Test without a notable batting contribution as he was dismissed cheaply with India in search of quick runs in the first innings.

Bangladesh's spinners hit the right areas against Pant, with Shakib Al Hasan's flat trajectory and changes of pace keeping him on a leash for a while. The keeper-batter eventually tried to clear the long-on boundary and failed, something that isn't too common for him against left-arm spinners in red-ball cricket.

Pant did hit the winning runs and was tidy behind the stumps, but couldn't come to the party at a time when Indian fans expected him to kick it up a notch following Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal's pyrotechnics.

#3 Star - Akash Deep

Akash Deep didn't have a massive say in the game, picking up just three wickets, but he was excellent whenever captain Rohit threw the ball to him. Relentlessly accurate with his lines and lengths, the fast bowler got the ball to nip around in both directions.

Deep's dismissal of Shadman Islam was important in the second innings, and he ensured that runs were at a premium whenever he came on to bowl. He even smacked a couple of sixes with Virat Kohli's bat.

#2 Flop - Mohammed Siraj

In contrast, Mohammed Siraj endured a disappointing outing in Kanpur. He picked up two wickets in the first innings but was India's most expensive bowler in both essays and sent down too many loose deliveries.

Siraj couldn't build any pressure when he was introduced and found himself outbowled by Bumrah and Deep. On the Day 5 morning, handing him the ball nearly proved to be a massive setback before Ravindra Jadeja and Deep rescued India with a flurry of wickets.

#1 Star - Yashasvi Jaiswal

The easy winner of the Player of the Match award for his twin fifties, Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his excellent start to Test cricket against Bangladesh. The opener dazzled with his expansive strokeplay on both sides of the wicket, particularly against spin.

Jaiswal ensured that India had sustained momentum following Rohit's dismissal after a quickfire cameo and didn't throw his wicket away in either innings. He was assured against spin and picked the gaps to perfection. To sweeten the deal, the youngster was stellar in the slips as well.
