IND vs SL 2024: 3 players who starred and 2 who flopped in the India vs Sri Lanka 2nd T20I match ft. Sanju Samson & Ravi Bishnoi
Team India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series against Sri Lanka on Sunday, July 27 in Pallekele. The Men in Blue won the second T20I by a comfortable seven-wicket margin to reduce the final game to a dead rubber.
Rain intervened before and during the encounter, but that didn't impede India's plans. After restricting the hosts to 161/9, they chased down the revised target with nine balls to spare.
On that note, here are three players who starred and two who flopped in the second T20I between India and Sri Lanka.
#5 Star - Suryakumar Yadav
Suryakumar Yadav's start to life as India's full-time T20I skipper has gone swimmingly. In the second T20I, he played another valuable cameo and impressed with his leadership.
Suryakumar got all of his bowlers involved. Riyan Parag completed his full quota of overs, Axar Patel got to bowl a couple at the death, and Ravi Bishnoi was used smartly.
Then, SKY struck four fours and a trademark six to ensure that the chase was straightforward despite the loss of Sanju Samson's wicket.
#4 Flop - Mohammed Siraj
Mohammed Siraj usually loves playing against Sri Lanka, but he has looked off-color in the series so far. On Sunday, he bowled three overs in the powerplay that went for 27 runs.
Siraj sent down two poor deliveries in the very first over that were picked off for boundaries. While he recovered well in the second, the fast bowler dished out another two looseners in the third to finish with disappointing figures.
In Jasprit Bumrah's absence, Siraj hasn't been able to hit his straps.
#3 Star - Yashasvi Jaiswal
India are already showing signs that the transition from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be relatively seamless, and a big reason behind that is Yashasvi Jaiswal. The opener has played fiery powerplay cameos in both T20Is against Sri Lanka thus far.
On Sunday, Jaiswal got off the blocks rapidly before rain intervened in the very first over. Once he knew the revised target, he wasn't going to hang around and blasted a quickfire 30 to put India in total control of the chase. The southpaw is a seriously good player and is so complete for his age.
#2 Flop - Sanju Samson
In contrast, India's other opener failed to trouble the scorers. Sanju Samson missed the very first ball he faced, off Maheesh Theekshana, and heard the death rattle.
Samson's feet went nowhere on his push as Theekshana's reverse carrom ball split his defense. It was a terrific delivery from the Sri Lankan bowler, but it was also a disappointing shot from a player who doesn't get too many gilt-edged opportunities to become a regular in the side.
#1 Star - Ravi Bishnoi
Ravi Bishnoi had looked off-color in the opening game of the series, but he was close to his best on Sunday. The leg-spinner picked up three wickets with an assortment of googlies to break the back of the Sri Lankan middle order.
Bishnoi bowled one over at the back end of the first innings that yielded two wickets. Before that, he created a few wicket-taking opportunities and even trapped the dangerous Pathum Nissanka in front of the stumps.
