India 250/3 at tea against England on Day One

Ahmedabad, Nov 15 (IANS):

India were 250/3 at tea with Virender Sehwag scoring a run-a-ball 117 on the first day of the cricket Test match against England at the Sardar Patel Stadium here Thursday.

India piled on another 130 runs in the post-lunch session losing three wickets in the process in 30 overs.

The hosts, who were 120/0 at lunch, lost their first wicket in the second over after lunch. Opener Gautam Gambhir tried to cut spinner Graeme Swann square of the wicket but the ball kept low and hit the off-stump, ending his innings five short of a half-century.

Cheteshwar Pujara provided good support to Sehwag, who went on to score the 23rd century of his career which included 15 splendid boundaries all over the park and a magnificent six.

However, the Delhi batsman tried to sweep Swann but misjudged the bounce and got bowled bringing in batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar.

Tendulkar only lasted 18 balls getting out in the second last over before tea. Three balls after hitting his second boundary of the day off the bowling of Swann, Tendulkar lofted a half-volley which went staight to the hands of Samit Patel in deep-mid-wicket.

At tea, Pujara and Virat Kohli were batting at 68 and 0, respectively.

Swann clinched all the three wickets giving away 60 runs in his 18 overs.
