India A tour of South Africa 2013: India A vs Australia A - Glenn Maxwell's blitzkrieg knock propels Aussies to 298/8
Glenn Maxwell hit an unbeaten 145 off just 79 deliveries to propel Australia A to 298/8 in the List A match against India A in Pretoria in the 2nd match of the tri-series also involving South Africa A.
In a much anticipated match, India won the toss and inserted the Australians in to bat.
The Australians were rocked early with both openers Aaron Finch and Shawn Marsh being dismissed by the end of the ninth over of the match, with only 36 runs on the board.
The Australian middle order of Doolan, Maddinson, Moises Henriques and Tim Paine were also put under sustained pressure by the Indian bowlers.
Maddinson did score a well compiled fifty but ended up being part of a mid-innings collapse when the Australians lost three wickets in the span of seven balls.
Part time bowlers Suresh Raina and surprise package Shikhar Dhawan created the damage by picking three wickets between them. Dhawan picked up Maddinson and Tim Paine in one over. The score at this point was 123/5, and required some serious rebuilding to avoid a rout.
Glenn Maxwell came out to the crease and had Henriques at the other end for company. A twin strike by Indian left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem left the Aussies precariously placed at 134/7.
Maxwell now unleashed an innings of tremendous power, which left the Indian bowlers bereft of ideas. He scored 145 off 79 balls with 18 fours and six hits over the fence, and remained undefeated taking Australia to a mammoth 298/8 in their allotted 50 overs.
Maxwell tore into Siddharth Kaul and Jaidev Unadkat in the last three overs in which he plundered 50 runs. This is a compilation of what happened to the last 14 balls that Maxwell faced – 4, 0, 4, 6, 4, 4, 2, 1, 6, 6, 6, 0, 4, 1.
Mohammed Shami, Nadeem and Dhawan picked up two wickets each for the Indian side.
Raina and Unadkat picked the other two wickets to fall in the game.
Shahbaz Nadeem ended up being the best bower for India with figures of 2 for 42 off eight overs.
