India ‘A’ tour of South Africa: Haroon Lorgat impressed by Indian selection policy
New Cricket South Africa chief executive officer Haroon Lorgat believes that the inclusion of players like Cheteshwar Pujara, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and others, in the India A squad, who would be a part of the team when India tours South Africa at the end of the year is bound to benefit India.
Complimenting the Indian selectors, Lorgat said: “The A team just came in (on Monday) and I welcomed them at the High Performance Centre (in Pretoria). If you look at that A team, there are a number of players in that line-up that will be here at the end of the year.
“So it may be an opportunity for them to get used to the conditions. I think they were smart to get those guys into the A team with a view to getting them familiar with the pitches”
Lorgat assured that the India tour of South Africa in November is not in danger of cancellation contrary to reports that suggest Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) might abort the tour in objection to the appointment of Lorgat as CEO of South African cricket board.
According to ‘The Star’, Lorgat was quoted as saying, “I don’t believe so. I don’t know what the specific issues are and I wonder if I’ve not gotten trapped into a kind of media amplification of what may not be there.”
However, he was not as confident about the tour itinerary as he concluded by saying: “From my understanding (the schedule) was confirmed, but there is obviously a bit of doubt in that now.”
India are scheduled to play three Tests, seven ODI’s and two T20 Internationals in South Africa.
