India A vs West Indies A: All players will get a chance, says Lalchand Rajput

India A team coach Lalchand Rajput said that the ongoing three-match one-day series against the West Indies A is an excellent opportunity to try out players who are on the fringes of national selection.

In a brief interaction with the media on Monday, at the sidelines of optional practice for the Indian team that won Sunday’s opening game by 77 runs, Rajput disclosed that all players will get an opportunity to play in the series, though the main aim was to win the rubber.

“There will be an opportunity for all players as we are looking at that angle as well. But at the same time, we have to win as well. We have to manage both things,” said Rajput.

On opening batsman Robin Uthappa, who is among several players attempting a return to the Indian team, Rajput said: “Uthappa batted very well against New Zealand A (in the recent series at Vizag). If he can consistently perform here, he will ring a bell with the selectors.”

Although it was an optional training session for those who played Sunday, but mandatory for others, it was attended by most players.
