India map inscribed on Border-Gavaskar trophy wrongly bordered?
We all felt proud when the Border-Gavaskar trophy was handed over to MS Dhoni after India brownwashed Australia 4-0 in the recently concluded home Test series.
But even a cursory glance at the trophy will make you realize that something is clearly missing from it. It is reported that the map of India inscribed on it is not at all proper. Half of Jammu and Kashmir (ostensibly known as POK) stands out omitted from the map. To quote it correctly, “a map which looks like the maps that foreign publications use, on which the censors then dutifully put their stamp.”
The whole of India cherished the series win, but to be handed over a trophy with even Gujarat’s borders and the peninsula not looking as they usually are, along with Kashmir, leaves us with the scope of raising a few questions. It still remains to be seen as to who is responsible for this blunder – the BCCI or ACB.
