ICC T20I Rankings: India retain top spot despite semi-final exit
The Indian cricket team might have failed to lift the ICC World T20 title after losing to eventual winners West Indies in the semi-finals, but have managed to still retain the top spot in the latest ICC T20I rankings published today.
India won three out of their five World T20 matches tasting defeat in their very first game of the tournament against New Zealand before getting knocked out by Darren Sammy's side.
Recently crowned world champions West Indies are still at No.2; one spot behind India by a margin of 1 point. West Indies defeated England on Sunday at the Eden Gardens to become the first nation to win the title twice.
World T20 semi-finalists New Zealand moved up to the third position after a good tournament. On the other hand, South Africa slipped down two spots to No.5 following their disappointing first round exit at the tournament.
World T20 runners-up England are now at the fourth spot in the recently announced ICC T20I rankings. Australia stayed put at the No.6 spot as they failed to make it to the knockout stages of the world event. Australia lost two out of their four group matches.
Both Pakistan and Sri Lanka retained their respective positions of seventh and eighth as the tournament saw both getting eliminated after the Super 10 phase. Afghanistan managed to stay above Bangladesh after beating eventual champions West Indies.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) climbed one spot in the T20 rankings to No.15 after a spirited show in India. Ireland meanwhile slipped down to number 16.
