India vs Sri Lanka 2014: Schedule announced
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have released the schedule for the 5-match ODI series between India and Sri Lanka, which is set to take place next month.
The series is scheduled to begin on November 2, with the first ODI at Cuttack. The Barabati Stadium in Orissa was originally chosen to host a T20 international between India and the West Indies, which was cancelled due to the visitors withdrawing from the tour after a pay dispute between the players, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), and the West Indies Players Association (WIPA).
After West Indies pulled out of their tour, the BCCI hastily arranged an ODI series against neighbours Sri Lanka. With the ICC Cricket World Cup less than 4 months away, the BCCI and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) decided on playing only ODIs, rather than Tests and T20Is.
Considering the Eden Gardens in Kolkata was slated to be the venue for the cancelled India-West Indies ODI, it comes as no surprise that the iconic venue gets a game in this series. Ahmedabad and Hyderabad, which were scheduled to host Test matches between India and West Indies, will also play host to Sri Lanka.
Ranchi has been given an ODI, ahead of Bangalore. The Garden City was expected to get a game as it was supposed to host the other Test between India and West Indies.
