India Team Director to be announced by June 6: BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Anurag Thakur has announced that the Indian Team Director and support staff will be announced by no later than June 6. The Indian team leaves for their tour of Bangladesh on June 7, with the one-off Test starting on June 10 followed by three ODIs on June 18, 21 and 24.
"Team India will arrive here on June 5. There will be a fitness test on the next day and team will leave for Bangladesh on June 7. The names of Team Director and support staff will be announced before that," Thakur informed after a meeting with Jagmohan Dalmiya at the BCCI president’s residence.
"I came here to meet the President (Dalmiya) personally after the successful completion of eighth season of IPL," he added.
There has been intense speculation in recent days regarding the roles of Team Director and Head Coach of the Indian team. While Duncan Fletcher’s contract as Head Coach came to an end after the World Cup leaving the BCCI in search of a new candidate, it has been widely reported that Ravi Shastri’s tenure as Team Director has also come to an end with Sourav Ganguly being the likely replacement.
Apart from Shastri being seen as a supporter of former BCCI president N Srinivasan, who is presently at loggerheads with the current regime, Ganguly’s nous as captain away from home during his playing days has resulted in the BCCI reportedly being keen on roping in the former left-hander in place of Shastri.
