India U-19 all-rounder speaks about being surprise package for Tuti Patriots

Albert TUTI Patriots all-rounder Washington Sundar spoke exclusively to the India Cements TN Premier League website after his team’s 38-run win in the first semi-final against Dindigul Dragons at the India Cements Limited Ground at Sankarnagar, Tirunelveli. Excerpts from the interview:

On getting good starts and not converting them

I opened in three games, (and)have scored 30 runs in each.In T20s, 30 odd is a good score, but maybe I should have converted. A thirty in this format is equivalent to a half-century in ODIs.

Given that you have been a surprise package in a team loaded with bowlers, any areas that you worked on?

I know my role in the team,I was picked as an all-rounder, and I had to perform well. I was ready when I got my chance (to bowl in the power-play). So, whenever I got a chance, I did well,I had an idea on how to bowl during the power-play,middle overs, andslog overs. I had a plan, I just executed it.

Thoughts on beating Dragons?

We didn’t think much (about winning), but we had the hunger. We knew that if we played to our potential, we’d win.Dinesh Karthik and AbhinavMukund played well in the first (innings), and even during the second (innings), DK (Karthik) asked me to bowl - the end result being a triple-wicket maiden! That is the beauty of T20s - a single over or wicket can change the game.

On plans for Chepauk Super Gilles

We believe in playing to our potential, giving it our best shot. We bowledwell throughout the tournament, our batting has also been bolstered by the return of Dinesh Karthik and Abhinav (Mukund). We beat Chepauk (Super Gillies)when we first played them in Chennai, but we didn’t have a good game against Lyca (Kovai Kings), at the same venue. But, we will be ready,we have our plans in place.
