India vs Australia 2013: Rohit Sharma should fill in the spot of Sachin Tendulkar in Tests, believes George Bailey
“It was an extraordinary innings. He has had a wonderful series. He is obviously flourishing at the top of the order. He would certainly be one who is in the mix for that spot that will open up after the great man (Sachin Tendulkar) departs in a couple of Tests,” – George Bailey, the Australian captain showered heaps of praise on Rohit Sharma after the 7th ODI.
The Australian captain was immensely impressed with Sharma’s outstanding display of batting during the series and he believed that Rohit Sharma should be the one who should fill in the number 4 spot in the Indian Test team after Sachin Tendulkar retires from international cricket, later this month.
“It was extraordinary. I think the record was smashed for most sixes in a game. I thought Rohit batted beautifully. He summed it up. He wasn’t actually that quick early on. I looked at it when he brought his 100 up and he was probably only run a ball. He just got a bit busier after that,” – Bailey said.
The Australian captain praised the way Sharma built his innings before launching an assault on his bowlers and hit 16 sixes during his double ton.
Rohit Sharma blasted his way into ODI cricket history after his innings of 209 that made him only third batsman in the history of ODI cricket after Sachin Tendulkar (200 no) and Virender Sehwag (219) to go past the 200 run mark. His innings of 209 was also the highest individual ODI score by any batsman against Australia in ODIs.
