India lost the first ODI against Australia in Sydney. India went into the fixture high on confidence after winning the Test series for the first time Down Under. Aaron Finch decided to bat first after winning the toss.

Aussies scored 288 runs thanks to half-centuries by Usman Khawaja, Shaun Marsh and Peter Handscomb. Marcus Stoinis also scored important 41 runs that made the crucial difference.

India had the worst possible start after losing three wickets for four runs in quick succession. Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni scored 133 and 51 respectively but to no avail as India lost the match by only 34 runs. Dhoni was sent back to the pavilion after the wrong decision by the umpire.

#1 Australia wins 1000 international matches

Australia became the first country to win 1000 international matches when they defeated India in the first ODI. Australia had won their first-ever international game against England in March 1877.

#2 Peter Siddle's ODI comeback

Siddle played his first ODI since November 5, 2010. The 34-year-old forward missed 169 matches, breaking the record for most consecutive ODIs missed between two appearances for the Australian Cricket team.

Brad Hogg previously held the record, missing 156 ODI's between two appearances for the Aussies.

#3 Rohit Sharma slams fifth ODI century in Australia

Rohit Sharma's brilliant knock of 133 went in vain as the Aussies secured the much-needed win after a poor performance in Test Series. It was Rohit's Sharma's 22nd hundred in 194 ODIs.

WIth the century in the first ODI, Rohit Shama became the first Indian batsman to score five centuries in ODI Cricket in Australia.
