India vs Bangladesh, 2nd T20I, Nidahas Trophy 2018: Numbers from the game
After a disappointing loss to Sri Lanka, an inexperienced India were under a little bit of pressure to bounce back. And they responded very well.
After winning the toss and putting Bangladesh into bat, India picked up key wickets of Soumya Sarkar and Tamim Iqbal inside the first six overs.
After the powerplay, the ‘Men in Blue’ picked wickets at regular intervals to keep the Bangladesh batsmen in check. Only Liton Das (34) and Sabbir Rahman (30) were able to contribute with some useful scores.
Spinners Washington Sundar (0/23) and Yuzvendra Chahal (1/19) bowled economically while Jaydev Unadkat (3/38) and Vijay Shankar (2/32), were a touch expensive, but they took key wickets.
However, even though Bangladesh were restricted to 139/8, it was far from a comprehensive performance on the field from India. They were erratic and inconsistent with their line and length. In the field, they were poor as they dropped as many as five catches.
Chasing a below par total of 140, skipper Rohit Sharma fell cheaply once again as he was bowled by Mustafizur Rahman for 17.
Rishabh Pant was promoted to No. 3 but he failed to capitalise on the opportunity as he got out for just seven runs.
However, Shikhar Dhawan continued his rich vein of form as he scored a fluent 55. Suresh Raina (28) and Manish Pandey (27*) supported him well.
India romped home by six wickets and came back strongly after a crushing defeat in the first game to get their first points on the board in the Nidahas Trophy.
Here are all the numbers from the second game of the tri-series.
