India vs England 2016: DRS comes to Parthiv Patel's rescue during the Mohali Test
After dismissing England out early on the second morning of the Mohali Test, India survived an early Decision Review System scare in their first innings, courtesy comeback man Parthiv Patel
On the third ball of the 6th over, Chris Woakes delivered a rising delivery, which brushed Patel’s shoulders. The England players expectedly went up in unison, and the umpire Marais Erasmus raised his finger.
However, the wicket-keeper was clearly not convinced with the decision and opted to go for the DRS. Replays indicated that the ball had missed the blade, and the noise everyone heard was that of the ball flicking the shirt en route to the wicket-keeper Jonny Bairstow.
The third umpire Kumar Dharamasena, who has in recent times been under the spotlight for his on-field decision making seemed confused even in the box, telling Erasmus that he could stand by his on-field call, before quickly rectifying his error and asking Erasmus to overturn his original decision.
Earlier in the morning, Mohammad Shami ensured India did not have to wait for too long for the final two wickets, removing both Adil Rashid and Gareth Batty cheaply to bowl the visitors out for 283.
Patel was eventually dismissed for 42.
