India vs England 4th Test Day 1 Stats: R Ashwin goes past Javagal Srinath, Keaton Jennings makes highest score on debut

England finished Day One of the Mumbai Test against India at 288 for 5 on the back of a fine debut Test hundred from Keaton Jennings, who made 112 and good support from Alastair Cook and Moeen Ali, who made 46 and 50 respectively.

For India, the star of the day was Ravichandran Ashwin, who picked up figures of 4 for 75 to ensure that the visitors did not run away with the game on the opening day and the end of the 90 overs, the match stands on an even keel.

7- Ashwin on Thursday surpassed Javagal Srinath in the list for the most number of wickets taken by an Indian bowler.He is now in the 7th position with 239 wickets besides his name and eclipsed the mark when he removed Moeen Ali.

5-Keaton Jennings on Thursday became the fifth overseas batsman since 2010 to notch up a debut Test hundred against India. The others include Kane Williamson, Kirk Edwards, James Neesham and Alviro Peterson.

1- Jennings’s knock of 112 is now the highest score by a debutant at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The record was earlier held by another Englishman- Owais Shah, who made 88 in his first Test against India in 2006.

6-Alastair Cook on Thursday became only the sixth international batsman to score 2000+ runs against India. He also became the first batsman from his country to achieve the feat.

21-With Ajinkya Rahane ruled out of the Mumbai Test, Test skipper Virat Kohli remains the only constant member of the Indian Test team since the time he captained India for the first time at Adelaide in 2014. Today was his 21st Test as skipper of this side.

14-When he walked out with his captain on Thursday, Jennings became Cook’s 14th opening partner, which now puts the latter on par with Chris Gayle at the 6th position. India’s Sunil Gavaskar leads the list with 19 opening partners during the course of his career.

4-By scoring a century on Thursday, Jennings has now become the fourth South African-born England cricketer to reach a three-figure mark on Test debut. Andrew Strauss, Jonathan Trott and Matt prior being the others.
