India beat New Zealand by 6 wickets in the first ODI at Dharamsala. It was a completely convincing performance from the Indians as they take a 1-0 lead in the five-match ODI series.

Chasing 191, India were off to a decent start with Ajinkya Rahane providing the fireworks. After losing both the openers in quick succession and Manish Pandey against the run of play, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni took the team home with ease. Kohli remained unbeaten on 85 off just 81 balls while Dhoni was run out for 21.

After putting into bat first, the New Zealand batsmen failed to apply resistance as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Umesh Yadav and Hardik Pandya started off really well with the new ball as they picked up the first five wickets inside the first 12 overs. Kedar Jadhav chipped in with a couple of wickets before Amit Mishra cleaned off the tail. Tom Latham remained unbeaten on 79 as the Kiwis were dismissed for just 190. Tom Latham became the second New Zealand batsman to score 50 or more in his maiden Test & ODI inngs in India. Ross Taylor was the first batsman to do so.

Amit Mishra took his 50th ODI wicket when he dismissed Doug Bracewell. He achieved this feat in 32 matches, the best by an Indian spinner and fourth best (Ajit Agarkar, Mohd. Shami and Irfan Pathan are the other three) by an Indian bowler.

Tim Southee became the first New Zealand’s no.10 batsman to score a fifty in ODIs. 

Tom Latham is now the first New Zealand player and 10th in overall to carry bat through a completed innings in ODI cricket.

4- Number of 50s scored by Tom Latham in this tour. No other New Zealand batsman managed to score more than 1 fifty.

37- Virat Kohli scored his 37th ODI fifty.

10,000- MS Dhoni faced his 10,000th ball in ODIs

108- This is MS Dhoni’s 108th ODI win as a captain, the second most by any captain in ODIs.
