India vs New Zealand 2017: Rain could play spoilsport during 3rd T20I in Thiruvananthapuram
What’s the story?
The ongoing T20I series has been an evenly contested affair and the scoreline reflects the same. With the series poised for a thriller in the decider at Thiruvananthapuram, the prospect of a real humdinger cannot be ruled out.
However, intermittent showers all through the day could play spoilsport and if the weathermen are to be believed, the final match could well fall prey to rain.
The details
The newly-built Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram is all set to host its maiden International game and what could be music to the ears of the fans is the fact that the authorities seemed confident that there will be a full game despite the showers.
Jayesh George, the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) secretary, exuded confidence when he said that they would be able to commence the game as quickly as 15 minutes after any rain delay, such is the potency of the drainage system.
In case you didn’t know…
The hosts won the first match in Delhi by 53 runs, but New Zealand bounced back in some style when they trounced India by a whopping margin of 40 runs in Rajkot.
What’s next?
India would want to win the series and improve their rankings in the T20 format. On the other hand, New Zealand would want to drive home the momentum they gained in Rajkot and prove that they deserve the number 1 rank in the format.
Author’s take
One would hope that this series sees a befitting finale after the final encounter between Australia and India had to be cancelled owing to a wet outfield in Hyderabad.
However, since this ground is new, one hopes the drainage system lives up to the billing and the game manages to skirt the threat of nature.
