India vs New Zealand, Day 4 Stats: R Ashwin breaks 200 wicket barrier

The fourth day of the opening Test between India and New Zealand saw a lot of records, but none more significant than Ravichandran Ashwin becoming the second fastest in the history of Test cricket to pick up 200 wickets.

The off-spinner removed the prized scalp of Kane Williamson to reach the landmark and now holds the record for the fastest Indian to 50,100, 150 and 200 wickets in Test match cricket.

Here are that and other stats for the day:

2-Ravindra Jadeja became only the second Indian cricketer to score a fifty and take five wickets in a Test against New Zealand. Javagal Srinath was the first to achieve the feat, he did so in Hamilton in 1999.

276- This is the highest score that any overseas team has chased batting last in India.West Indies achieved the feat in 1987-88.  In Kanpur, the highest score made in the fourth innings is 240.

2-Ravichandran Ashwin picked up his 200th Test wicket and became the second fastest bowler and the fastest by an Indian to reach the mark in Test cricket. He achieved the feat in 37 Tests while Clarrie Grimmett holds the  world record for having done it in 36 Tests. He is also the fastest Indian to 50, 100 and 150 Test wickets.

78- The number of runs made by Virat Kohli since making a double hundred in the Antigua Test against West Indies. His last five scores in Tests read: 18,9,4,3 and 44.

3- This is the third instance when New Zealand spinners have picked up taken a combined tally of 10 or more wickets in a Test match against India. In the Ahmedabad test of 2010, they took 12 wickets and in the Nagpur Test of 1970, they took 19 wickets.

9- Today was the first time in nine innings that Rohit Sharma registered a fifty-plus score in Test cricket. His last fifty, before today, came against Sri Lanka last year.

15- Ravindra Jadeja registered his first fifty in 15 innings in Test match cricket. His last 50+ score came against England at Lord’s in 2014, when he scored 68, also in the second innings.

2- 434 is the second highest total that India have set for New Zealand to chase in Test cricket in the final innings. The highest was 617 in Wellington in 2009.
