India vs New Zealand, 4th ODI- Stats: Virat Kohli reaches yet another milestone

Trent Boult in action during the fourth ODI between India and New Zealand

New Zealand beat India by 19 runs in the fourth ODI at Ranchi and levelled the series 2-2 with the final match to be played at Vizag on Saturday. After winning the toss for the first time in the tour, New Zealand were off to a great start with their openers Martin Guptill and Tom Latham putting on 96 runs for the first wicket before Latham got out to Axar. Guptill carried on his good form and scored his first fifty of this series before he was dismissed for 72 runs off 84 balls.

Just like the previous three ODIs, New Zealand lost their way in the middle overs before ending their innings with a score of 260-7 in their 50 overs. Amit Mishra was India’s best bowler as he ended up taking 2 wickets for 42 runs in his 10 overs.

Chasing 261, India lost their opening batsman Rohit Sharma early and their hero from the last game, Virat Kohli was dismissed for 45. It was when there was a collapse in India’s batting as Ajinkya Rahane, MS Dhoni, Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav and Hardik Pandya in quick succession leaving India in trouble at 167-6 after the 36th over.

It was just a matter of time before the Kiwis cleaned up India’s tail. But, Amit Mishra and Axar Patel gave India some hope before a mix-up between them costed Mishra his wicket. A couple of balls later, Axar was castled by Boult for 36. Dhawal Kulkarni tried his best to take India home but Boult dismissed Umesh to dismiss his side a 19-run victory.
