India vs South Africa highlights, 2024 T20 World Cup: 3 moments that generated buzz among fans in final ft. Suryakumar Yadav

India trumped South South Africa by seven runs in the 2024 T20 World Cup final at Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday, June 29. The Men in Blue defended a 177-run target in a last-over thriller to clinch the coveted championship trophy.

Rohit Sharma won the toss for India and chose to bat first. However, the side found themselves in a precarious position after losing three wickets in the powerplay. Virat Kohli roared back to form in the most important fixture of the tournament, notching up a fighting half-century.

Kohli was the top run-getter in the innings, finishing with 76 runs off 59 balls. Axar Patel also played a clutch knock under pressure, scoring 47 runs in 31 deliveries. The two formed a 72-run partnership for the fourth wicket, helping the side register a competitive total.

Anrich Nortje and Keshav Maharaj picked up two wickets each, while Marco Jansen and Kagiso Rabada claimed one wicket apiece. South Africa had a shaky start to their run chase, with Jasprit Bumrah getting rid of opener Reeza Hendricks early.

Quinton de Kock and Tristan Stubbs steadied the ship for the Proteas, scoring 39 and 31, respectively. Heinrich Klaasen swung the pendulum in South Africa's favor with his quick-fire 52-run knock.

However, India won the battle of nerves in the death overs, eking out a seven-run victory. Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers, recording figures of 4-0-18-2. Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh also did a commendable job, taking three and two wickets, respectively.

Here, we take a look at three moments from the India vs South Africa 2024 T20 World Cup final that generated buzz among the fans.

#1 Suryakumar Yadav's awe-inspiring catch to dismiss David Miller in the 20th over

With 16 runs required off the final over, South Africa would have fancied their chances, as veteran batter David Miller was still at the crease. The southpaw almost cleared the ropes off Hardik Pandya on the very first ball of the over.

Miller hit a wide full toss towards the long-off region. While it appeared that the ball would sail over the boundary, Suryakumar Yadav had other plans.

Suryakumar completed a fine catch at the ropes. He threw it in the air as he crossed the boundary and collected the ball after returning to the field of play, showcasing tremendous composure under immense pressure.

#2 Quinton de Kock's presence of mind to run Axar Patel out

Axar Patel missed out on a well-deserved half-century, getting run out on 47. He had to walk back after South African wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock showed great presence of mind.

On the third ball of the 14th over, Kagiso Rabada's ball hit Virat Kohli's thigh pad and went to the left of de Kock. Axar set off in an attempt to steal a quick single.

However, Kohli took a couple of steps and turned back. While Axar seemed to have enough time to return to his crease, he was a tad bit slow, which cost him his wicket. De Kock saw the opportunity and produced a brilliant direct hit at the non-striker's end, providing his team with a massive breakthrough.

#3 Jasprit Bumrah stamping his class with a stunning 18th over to bring India back into the game

South Africa needed 22 runs from 18 balls when Jasprit Bumrah came to bowl the final over of his spell. The onus was on the ace speedster to do the job for Team India in the final, and he didn't disappoint.

Bumrah started the over with two dot balls. David Miller took a single on the third ball, bringing Marco Jansen on strike. The Indian fast bowler dished out a wonderful inswinger to get Jansen out bowled.

The 30-year-old gave away just two runs in the 18th over while claiming Jansen's wicket, once again proving why he is regarded as one of the best death bowlers in world cricket.
