India vs Sri Lanka 2017, 1st ODI: Hits and misses

Rohit Sharma's first outing as Team India skipper turned out to be an embarrassing one as the Men in Blue lost the first ODI of the three-match series against Sri Lanka by seven wickets at Dharamshala.

It turned out to be a crucial toss to win for Thisara Perera as the hosts were reduced to 12/3 in 10 overs, the lowest Powerplay score in ODIs.

There was some early moisture on the wicket and Sri Lanka's pacers did not fail to make the most of it as India were eventually bowled out for 112 in 38.2 overs.

The hosts are now on the backfoot as Sri Lanka take a 1-0 lead before going into the second ODI that will be played at Mohali on Thursday.

Now, let's have a look at the players who stood out and those who failed to deliver as Sri Lanka steamrolled India.

Hit: Angelo Mathews

The most experienced player in Sri Lanka's under-fire unit, Angelo Mathews contributed with both bat and ball as the visitors put up an inspired performance to outplay India.

Mathews struck in his first over as he removed opener Shikhar Dhawan on zero and ended up giving away just eight runs in his five overs.

Chasing small totals can be really tricky and Sri Lanka also seemed to be under pressure in the beginning.

Although the visitors were chasing a paltry total of 112, they lost a couple of early wickets and were 19/2 in the seventh over.

Upul Tharanga did score 49 but the pair of Mathews (25*) and Niroshan Dickwella (26*) batted sensibly and ensured Sri Lanka's win in the 21st over.
