India vs Sri Lanka 2017, 2nd Test, Day 3: Stats, Virat Kohli overtakes Sir Don Bradman with brilliant double ton
Sri Lanka ended day three of the second Test against India at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur with the scorecard reading 21/1, trailing the hosts by 384 runs. The Lankans lost their opener Sadeera Samarawickrama for a duck off the second ball of the innings when he shouldered arms to an incoming Ishant Sharma delivery that hit the top of off stump.
Dimuth Karunaratne and Lahiru Thirimanne go back to the pavilion as the overnight batsmen with scores of 11 and nine respectively. Earlier in the day, Virat Kohli declared the Indian innings at 610 for 6, with a first-innings lead of 405 runs.
Overnight batsmen Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli started off on a positive note as the Indian skipper notched up his 19th Test fifty. Just before lunch, India lost Pujara for 143 and soon after lunch, Ajinkya Rahane was sent back to the pavilion for just two. Rohit Sharma, who is playing his first Test in over a year, joined the skipper at the crease and the duo kept the scorecard ticking without taking any risks.
Kohli reached his 150 and Rohit followed it up with his fifty. The duo took the game away from Sri Lanka with some fantastic batting display. Kohli reached his fifth double century before he was dismissed for 213. Just after the drinks interval in the third session, Rohit scored his third Test ton before the captain called the batsmen back to the pavilion.
