India vs Sri Lanka 2017: Who said what as India plunder runs against Sri Lanka
Ever since being pushed to a corner during the first two days in the first Test, India has been on an upward swing. After cornering Sri Lanka on the final day in Kolkata, the hosts have continued their dominance in the second Test as well.
On the third day, India plundered runs for fun against a tiring and wilting Sri Lankan attack and Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Rohit Sharma filled their shoes for the entire duration the day.
Kohli got to his fifth Test double hundred and Rohit Sharma reached his 3rd century after a gap of four years.
However, Ajinkya Rahane and Ravichandran Ashwin missed out with the bat. Despite this, India amassed 610 in their first innings.
Ishant Sharma then pounded in and got rid of opener Sadeera Samarawickrama on the second ball of the match to rock Sri Lanka early.
At the end of the day's play, Sri Lanka was at 21 for 1 still adrift of India's first innings total by 384 runs.
Here is how the cricketing fraternity reacted!
Rohit Sharma: We were in a good situation 400 for 3. We knew that we've to only bat once. It started to deteriorate and knew it would the bowlers. So the idea was to create partnerships. I was watching for 1.5 days and the idea was to stay low at the crease. There was pressure, it's close to 500 days since I played my last test match so I was a little nervous. I wanted to take singles to get that initial momentum going. I don't want to talk too much about it [my Test career]. Last year when I missed out on a big home season, I felt a little disappoiinted. We might never get such a season again - 13 home Tests. But the bottom line is to score runs every time you go out. I don't want to put too much pressure on myself. I'm really glad that I got some run. [About his memories of Nagpur] It was disappointing when I came here the first time in 2010 and got injured when I was supposed to make a debut. It took almost four years after that. So I don't want to think of it at all!
