India vs Sri Lanka 2017: Injured Kedar Jadhav ruled out of ODI series
All-rounder Kedar Jadhav has been ruled out of the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka with a hamstring injury. 19-year-old Washington Sundar has been called up as his replacement, thereby earning his maiden ODI call-up.
The 32-year-old, who played all three matches of the ODI series against New Zealand, was at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru in a bid to regain full fitness ahead of the ODI series that begins on December 10 at Dharamsala. However, Jadhav failed to recover from his injury and will now be replaced by the Tamil Nadu all-rounder.
"Mr Jadhav suffered a left hamstring injury during training on Friday, December 9 and will undergo scans. The BCCI Medical Team will continue to monitor him," a BCCI release said.
Washington made waves in the national spotlight courtesy of his performances in IPL 2017, where he came in as a replacement for Ravichandran Ashwin and became a crucial part of the Rising Pune Supergiant side, who just missed out on claiming their maiden IPL title. Since then, he has just gone from strength to strength.
He continued his impressive performances from the IPL to the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2017, where he finished as the highest run-getter and second-highest wicket-taker and almost helped his side, Albert TuTi Patriots, claim their second successive TNPL title.
His impressive performances earned him a place in the T20I side to take on Sri Lanka, which was his maiden national call-up. Injury has now given him the opportunity to claim his maiden ODI cap.
The 32-year-old was only picked for the ODI series and will have to wait until 2018 to make his next appearance in Indian colours.
