The Kohli-Ashwin combination is now the most successful pair for India

The fourth day was a mere formality for the Indian team to finally seal a win in the three-match series, having come close to getting one in the dying stages of the first game in Kolkata.

An innings and 239 runs defeat for Lanka was their ninth innings defeat out of the 11 they have lost in India, showing how the islanders have struggled on the home soil of their neighbours.

Here are all the numbers from the fourth day's play:

0 - No one in the history of the game has taken 300 Test wickets faster than Ravichandran Ashwin, who dismissed Lahiru Gamage as the last victim of the match to get to the milestone. He took just 54 matches to achieve the feat.

Here are the others:

56 Dennis Lillee
58 Muttiah Muralitharan
61 Richard Hadlee
61 Malcolm Marshall
61 Dale Steyn

1 - This is the joint biggest win for India in terms of runs, drawing level with the exact same margin of victory against Bangladesh at Mirpur last year.

1 - The Ashwin-Kohli bowler-captain combination has now accounted for most wickets for a bowler under an Indian captain. Here’s the list:

181 - Ashwin - Kohli

177 - Harbhajan Singh - Sourav Ganguly
172 - Kapil Dev - Sunil Gavaskar

3 - Ashwin is the third bowler to have taken more than 50 + wickets in three consecutive calendar years (2015-17).

The other two are:

Shane Warne (1993-95)
Muttiah Muralitharan (2000-02)

4 - This is the fourth consecutive time in the second innings that the Lankans have been five down for 100 runs or less - twice was against Pakistan in the UAE, and the other two have been in this series.

32 - India now have 32 wins in 2017 itself, the most they have achieved in a single year, bettering the 31 wins they notched up last year. Australia has the best record, winning 38 matches in 2003.
