India vs Sri Lanka 2017, Stats: India reach new lows in the first ODI

Worst possible start for
Worst possible start for "captain" Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma's captaincy career got off to the worst possible start as Sri Lanka beat India by seven wickets in the first ODI at the HPCA stadium in Dharamsala.

After being put into bat, India were off to a pathetic start as they lost all their top-five batsmen for just 16 runs and were further reduced to 29-7. Former skipper MS Dhoni, along with Kuldeep Yadav, put on 41 runs for the eighth wicket before Niroshan Dickwella's brilliant work behind the stumps sent Kuldeep back for 19.

Jasprit Bumrah showed some resistance before he went for a wild swing and was castled by Sachita Pathirana for a 15-ball duck. During his stay at the crease, he put on 17 valuable runs for the ninth wicket with Dhoni.

Dhoni was the only batsman to show resistance as he scored an 87-ball 65. Suranga Lakmal was the wrecker in chief as he registered his best bowling figures in ODIs, 4/13.
