India vs Sri Lanka Highlights: 3 moments that generated buzz among fans in 2nd ODI ft. Virat Kohli

Team India suffered a 32-run defeat to Sri Lanka at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, on Sunday, August 4, in the second ODI of the ongoing three-match series. Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat first.

India got off to a fantastic start, with Mohammed Siraj dismissing the in-form Pathum Nissanka on the very first ball of the match. Avishka Fernando and Kusal Mendis steadied the ship for the home team, scoring 40 and 30, respectively.

While Sri Lanka's middle-order failed to score big, Kamindu Mendis (40) and Dunith Wellalage (39) chipped in with valuable contributions towards the back end of the innings. The two formed a crucial 72-run partnership for the seventh wicket, which helped the side finish at 240/9 after 50 overs.

Washington Sundar was the pick of the Indian bowlers, registering figures of 10-1-30-3. Kuldeep Yadav also bowled a tidy spell, conceding 33 runs in 10 overs and bagging two scalps.

India kicked off the run chase with a stunning 97-run opening stand between Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Sharma notched up his second half-century in as many outings, amassing 64 runs.

On the other hand, Gill failed to convert his start into a big score, perishing after scoring 35 runs. Axar Patel was promoted to the No. 5 spot in the batting order, and the southpaw repaid the faith shown by the team management by delivering an impressive 44-run knock.

However, the rest of the batters failed to make a significant impact. Leg spinner Jeffrey Vandersay ran through India's star-studded batting line-up, recording brilliant figures of 10-0-33-6.

India were ultimately bowled out for 208 in 42.2 overs. With the win, Sri Lanka have taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Here, we take a look at three moments from the IND vs SL 2nd ODI that generated buzz among the fans.

#1 Shreyas Iyer's stunning direct hit to dismiss Kamindu Mendis

Kamindu Mendis looked well set at the crease after having scored 40 runs off 44 balls. His knock ended in the penultimate ball of the final over, courtesy of Shreyas Iyer's brilliant fielding.

Mendis attempted to play the pull shot off Arshdeep Singh's bowling. However, he didn't get the desired connection, top-edging it towards the deep mid-wicket region. Wanting to keep the strike for the last ball, he tried to sprint back for a double.

Shreyas Iyer collected that ball at deep mid-wicket and produced a brilliant direct hit, despite the distance and having just one stump to aim at. Mendis was caught short at the crease and had to walk back to the pavilion.

#2 Kamindu Mendis' one-handed blinder at slip

Apart from his batting exploits, Kamindu Mendis also shone in the field, taking a spectacular catch to send Shubman Gill back. The Indian opener fell to Jeffrey Vandersay in the 18th over.

Gill looked to drive a flighted delivery from the leg spinner. He was undone by the turn and got an outside edge that flew towards the slips. Mendis held on to an astonishing one-handed catch, ending the right-handed batter's promising knock.

It is worth mentioning that Mendis helped his team claim another breakthrough later in the match, running out Arshdeep Singh in the 43rd over.

#3 Virat Kohli getting a reprieve after LBW reversal in India vs Sri Lanka 2nd ODI

On the final ball of the 15th over of the Indian innings, Virat Kohli was adjudged LBW off Akila Dananjaya's bowling by the on-field umpire. The veteran batter thought for a bit and opted for the DRS.

The UltraEdge showed a spike when the ball passed Kohli's bat and the on-field umpire's decision was reversed. However, the Sri Lankan players were visibly upset by the decision.

Keeper Kusal Mendis threw his helmet on the ground in frustration while skipper Charith Asalanka was seen having a chat with the umpire.
