India vs Sri Lanka Highlights: 3 moments that generated buzz among fans in 3rd T20I ft. Rinku Singh
Team India completed a 3-0 whitewash over Sri Lanka with their Super Over win in the third T20I at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele on Tuesday, July 30. After being asked to bat first, India registered 137/9 in 20 overs.
They lost four wickets within the first six overs. Opener Shubman Gill held one end up and scored 39 runs off 37 balls. Riyan Parag and Washington Sundar chipped in with important cameos towards the back end, contributing 26 and 25 runs, respectively.
Maheesh Theekshana was the pick of the Sri Lankan bowlers in the encounter. The crafty spinner gave away 28 runs in his four overs while claiming the wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Washington Sundar, and Rinku Singh.
Sri Lanka's top-order batters helped them get off to an impressive start. Kusal Perera and Kusal Mendis scored 46 and 43, respectively. At one stage, it seemed that the hosts would end the series with a consolation win.
However, they suffered yet another batting collapse, something that has been their Achilles heel of late. Sri Lanka lost seven wickets for just 22 runs in the last 4.1 overs. Washington Sundar recorded figures of 4-0-23-2.
The game ended in a tie as Sri Lanka finished at 137/8 after 20 overs. Sundar bowled the Super Over for India. He took two wickets in three balls while conceding just two runs. Suryakumar Yadav took India to victory by chasing down the three-run target with a four off the first ball.
Here we take a look at three moments from the IND vs SL third T20I that generated buzz among the fans
#1 Sri Lanka's batting collapse
Sri Lanka got impressive starts in all three T20Is of the recently concluded series. However, their middle-order batters failed to capitalize on the platform set by the top three every time.
The story continued in the third T20I. The hosts were 115/2 after 16 overs, requiring just 23 runs off 24 balls. The Indian bowlers staged a miraculous turnaround, pulling off a heist in the low-scoring thriller.
Apart from the top three batters in Sri Lanka's batting order, nobody was able to cross the five-run mark during the chase.
#2 Rinku Singh and Suryakumar Yadav's bowling exploits
With Sri Lanka needing nine runs off the last 12 balls, Team India skipper Suryakumar Yadav handed the ball to Rinku Singh, to the surprise of many.
Rinku started his over with a dot ball. He claimed his maiden T20I wicket, dismissing the well-set Kusal Perera on the subsequent delivery. He claimed yet another wicket in the over, getting Ramesh Mendis out on the last ball.
The equation came down to six off as many balls. Suryakumar backed himself to do the job, deciding to bowl the final over ahead of Mohammed Siraj. He struck twice, taking the wickets of Kamindu Mendis and Maheesh Theekshana off successive deliveries.
#3 Washington Sundar's all-round heroics help India clinch victory
Playing his first match of the series, Washington Sundar made a significant impact with both bat and ball. His 25-run cameo helped the Men in Blue get to a respectable total.
He also bowled a tidy spell. Sundar dismissed Wanindu Hasaranga and Charith Asalanka in the 17th over, giving India some hope. The 24-year-old then bagged another two wickets in the Super Over. Sundar was adjudged the Player of the Match for his all-round heroics.
