India vs Sri Lanka T20Is 2024: A statistical preview
Team India will take on Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series from July 27 to July 30. The first T20I of the series will be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Saturday, July 27. The remaining two T20Is will also be held at the same venue on July 28 and July 30 respectively.
Suryakumar Yadav has been named captain of the Indian T20I squad ahead of all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Young opener Shubman Gill has been named the vice-captain. Apart from Gill, Riyan Parag, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi and Khaleel Ahmed are some of the other players from the Zimbabwe tour who have retained their places in the T20I squad.
As for Sri Lanka, they have picked Charith Asalanka as captain, with Wanindu Hasaranga stepping down after the team's poor 2024 T20 World Cup campaign. The hosts have suffered a couple of setbacks ahead of the series, with pacers Dushmantha Chameera and Nuwan Thushara being ruled out.

India and Sri Lanka have met 29 times in the T20I format, with the Men in Blue winning 19 matches and Sri Lanka nine. One game between the two Asian sides produced no result. The two teams last clashed in T20Is in a three-match series in India in January 2023. The hosts won the clinched the series 2-1.
Highest and lowest totals
India's 260-5 in Indore in December 2017 is the highest team total in India vs Sri Lanka T20Is. India also hold the second position on the list. They scored 228-5 in Rajkot in January 2023. For Sri Lanka, the 215-5 they registered in Nagpur in December 2009 is their highest T20I total against India.
India's 81-8 in Colombo (RPS) in July 2021 is the lowest total in India vs Sri Lanka T20Is. Sri Lanka's 82 in Visakhapatnam in February 2016 is their lowest total against the Men in Blue in T20Is. The Lankans were also bowled out for 87 in Cuttack in December 2017.

Former India captain Rohit Sharma is second on the list of batters with most runs in India vs Sri Lanka T20Is. In 19 matches, he hit 411 runs at an average of 24.17 and a strike rate off 144.21, with one hundred and one fifty. Rohit is followed by Shikhar Dhawan, who scored 375 runs in 12 matches at a strike rate of 129.31.
Highest individual scores in IND vs SL T20Is
Rohit's sparkling 118 off 43 balls in Indore in December 2017 is the highest individual score in India vs Sri Lanka T20Is. The right-handed batter's terrific knock featured 12 fours and 10 sixes and came at a strike rate of 274.41.
Suryakumar is the only other batter to have struck a three-figure score in India vs Sri Lanka T20Is. The 33-year-old hammered 112* off 51 balls in Rajkot in January 2023. The scintillating knock included seven fours and nine sixes.
Former captain Kumar Sangakkara's 78 off 37 balls in Nagpur in December 2009 is the highest individual score registered by a Sri Lankan batter in a T20I against India. The left-handed batter struck 11 fours and two sixes in his innings, which came at a strike rate of 210.81.
Most sixes in IND vs SL T20Is
Shanaka holds the record for having hit most sixes in India vs Sri Lanka T20Is. In 20 innings, he has slammed 29 maximums. Rohit is second on the list, with 19 sixes from 17 innings, followed by Suryakumar (15 sixes from five innings).
If we talk about most sixes in an innings in India vs Sri Lanka T20Is, the record is in the name of Rohit. The 37-year-old struck 10 sixes in his 118 in Indore in December 2017. Suryakumar is second on the list. He hit nine sixes in his 112 in Rajkot in January 2023.
Most wickets in IND vs SL T20Is
Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal holds the record for having claimed most wickets in India vs Sri Lanka T20Is. In 13 matches, he has picked up 23 wickets at an average of 17.34 and an economy rate of 8.48, with two four-wicket hauls.
For Sri Lanka, pacer Chameera has claimed most wickets against India in T20Is. He has picked up 16 wickets in 15 matches at an average of 26.68 and an economy rate of 7.90. Chameera is followed by Ravichandran Ashwin and Shanaka, who have both claimed 14 wickets each.
Best bowling figures in IND vs SL T20Is
Veteran off-spinner Ashwin holds the record for producing the best bowling figures in India vs Sri Lanka T20Is. Ashwin registered figures of 4-8 in Visakhapatnam in February 2016. For the Lankans, Hasaranga claimed 4-9 in Colombo in July 2021.
