India and West Indies have never before met in a Twenty20 International (T20I) hosted by India.
The teams have contested three World T20 matches, with West Indies getting the better of India by a slender two-one margin. Their inaugural World T20 match at Lord's was won by West Indies, who went on to beat India in the following addition of the tournament at home in 2010, before finally letting up in Dhaka in 2014. The only match part of a bilateral arrangement was won by India in Port of Spain by 16 runs, squaring off the overall T20I record -- two apiece.
Here are some numbers to feast your eyes on.
169- West Indies hold the distinction and ignominy of having scored the highest and lowest totals between the two teams, thus far --169 for six at Bridgetown, Barbados and 129 for seven in Dhaka.
98- the highest individual score from either side, belongs to Chris Gayle, who achieved the feat in 2010 at home. For India, Yuvraj's 67 at Lord's is the highest, which came in a losing cause.
156- Chris Gayle's tally of 156 runs in three matches is the most for a batsman on either side.
5- The score of fifty has been surpassed five times in all India-West Indies T20I's. There have been no centuries yet.
29- Dwayne Bravo holds the record for the fastest fifty in T20I matches featuring India and West Indies. He got it off 29 balls at Lord's.
106- Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli shared a second-wicket stand worth 106 at Dhaka, which is the highest partnership for any wicket, in all T20Is between the two sides.
136- A total of 136 boundaries have been hit in these encounters. 95 fours and 41 sixes have been hit in T20I matches between India and West Indies. With 48 fours, India have done marginally better on that front, whereas their powerful West Indian counterparts have cleared the ropes 24 times -- seven more than India's tally of 17 sixes. Unsurprisingly, Chris Gayle dominates the individual boundary count with 10 fours and nine sixes in just three matches.
4/16 – The best bowling figures belong to West Indies captain, Darren Sammy, who took four for 16 at Port of Spain. For India, Ashish Nehra leads the way with figures of three for 35, at Kennington Oval in Barbados.
Darren Sammy and Dwayne Bravo are the joint highest wicket-takers, with five Indian scalps each. Ravindra Jadeja's four wickets are India's best in the shortest format against West Indies.
The most runs conceded by a bowler in a match is 48. Ravindra Jadeja was the culprit in a bitter-sweet outcome for the spinner, which saw him pick three wickets in addition to leaking runs at 12 per over.
