Indian cricket team lacks a spearhead

One of the most things that Team India seem to miss in the ongoing series against Australia is the presence of a spearhead seamer who could lead his fellow seamers. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been the only bowler to rely on in the series as he maintened  a decent economy rate while his fellow seamers Vinay Kumar and Ishant Sharma haven’t been that impressive in the series and preferably Sharma has been the most talked bowler to give expensive runs in the series. Because of these unexpected things, India had to depend mainly on its batting to make a high target.

Team India’s fast bowling hasn’t been the best but due to the presence of some quality spinners like Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, they had managed to provide an expected attack in a friendly track that assist spin. One of the most prominent things that hurt the current Indian team is the absence of an experienced bowler. With 26 wickets, from 20 ODI matches, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has carved himself as a dependable seamer but he is quite young to lead the bowling attack. Ishant Sharma, the most experience seamer in the side seems to have lost his rhythm due to his lackluster bowling.

A spearhead to lead

Earlier during few years ago, Zaheer Khan was spearheading and supporting fellow seamers like Ashish Nehra, Munaf Patel and Irfan Pathan thus producing not a blitzkrieg attack but a decent quality attack on the opposition.  That is the thing, which the current Indian squad appears to miss of late.

After the three ODI’s in the bilateral series, India needs a victory in the next match in Ranchi to level the series and they will be under a tremendous pressure. The presence of Ishant Sharma retained in the squad for the remaining matches made sure that Zaheer Khan will have to wait and watch out for the next series against South Africa to make a impact. To make sure that India wins in the next match, they must at least effect  a change by giving a chance to either Jaydev Unadkad or Mohammad Shami.
