Indian cricket team players to fly business-class even during home assignments
What’s the story?
The Indian cricket team members will now fly business class when traveling on national duty after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) approved their proposal to upgrade the travel.
This comes at the back of a request made by the players who complained about being mobbed by fans and being heckled for selfies while on the fight, which took a toll on their rest time.
The details
“The proposal has been approved in a recently-held meeting of the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) in Delhi. The proposal approved in COA meeting regarding business class travel for all cricketers for their domestic flights on and off series:,” BCCI acting president CK Khanna told ANI.
Many taller players in the group had also complained about lack of leg space in the Economy class.
What this means that any player who is on National duty can now avail the services of Business class. Earlier only the captain and the coach were eligible for this treatment.
In case you didn’t know…
In a previous interview, former Indian captain Kapil Dev had also advocated the BCCI to own a personal airplane as he believed that this would save a lot of time and the players would be more comfortable.
Apparently, the acting president CK Khanna had raised this request before the Committee of Administrators after he was made aware of the problems faced by the players.
What’s next?
The Indian cricket team is all set to face Sri Lanka in the full-fledged bilateral series, which commences with a Test match at the Eden Gardens on November 16 and this ruling will kick in immediately.
