Mithali Raj stars for World XI in victory over MCC
It was a moment of pride for Indian cricket when Indian women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj played the role of a principal performer with her knock of 67 runs to outplay the Marylebone Cricket Club Women XI at Lord’s recently. Mithali’s knock was complemented by Australia captain Meg Lanning’s 59 as the World XI managed to post a total of 283 for 9 in 50 overs.
Other players who played a crucial role for the World XI included Australia’s Elysse Perry (49) and Indian all rounder Jhulan Goswami (27). MCC’s medium-pacer Kate Cross scalped four wickets while off-spinner Danielle Hazell bagged two.
MCC’s openers Charlotte Edwards and Heather Knight provided a strong foundation by posting 98 runs in the first 20 overs in their chase of 284 runs for victory. However, after the opening pair made their way back to the pavillion, MCC batswomen lost wickets in quick succession. Pakistan’s off spinner Sana Mir, who has experience of 66 ODIs claimed 4 for 36 in 9.4 overs to dismiss the opponents for 242 in 49.4 overs; thereby ensuring World XI’s triumph over MCC by 41 runs.
