Infographic: Best all-round performances in Test cricket

England’s Ian Botham bowling in the 1981 Ashes

Good all-rounders are the biggest asset to their teams, and the decade of 1980s saw the best all-rounders the game has ever witnessed – Ian Botham, Kapil Dev and Imran Khan. While it’s difficult to streamline the greatness of these legends into numerical stats, very few players have been lucky enough to have the illustrious record of a century and 5-for in the same innings.

Only 3 Indians have been able to achieve this feat (Kapil Dev is not one of them) – Vinoo Mankad against England at Lord’s in 1952 (184 runs and 5 wickets), Polly Umrigar against West Indies at Port of Spain in 1959 (172* and 5 wickets), and Ravichandran Ashwin against West Indies in Mumbai in 2011 (103 runs and 5 wickets).
