Injured Chris Gayle omitted from West Indies squad for ODIs against India

Chris Gayle has been left out of West Indies’ 15-member ODI squad for a 5-match series against India next month due to an ongoing hamstring injury. The West Indies will be leaving for India at the end of this month for the ODI series, which begins on October 8 in Kochi and ends on October 20, followed by a lone T20 international and a 3-match Test series.

Gayle, who is the most notable absentee from the Dwayne Bravo-led squad, will be hoping that he can recover in time for the subsequent Test series. The two other players who have been left out of the squad after featuring in the squad for their recent ODIs against Bangladesh are Kirk Edwards and left-arm spinner Nikita Miller. Marlon Samuels, Dwayne Smith and Jerome Taylor, meanwhile, have been brought into the squad by the Clive Lloyd-led selection panel.

The 30-year old Taylor, who has had a spate of injuries in recent years, will be playing his first ODI in four years during the upcoming series, provided he gets a game, after last playing an ODI against South Africa in June 2010.

Dwayne Bravo (capt), Darren Bravo, Jason Holder, Leon Johnson, Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard, Denesh Ramdin (wk), Ravi Rampaul, Kemar Roach, Andre Russell, Darren Sammy, Marlon Samuels, Lendl Simmons, Dwayne Smith, Jerome Taylor.
