Australia A fast bowler Pat Cummins was sent back home from their tour of South Africa after complaining of rib and back pain during the game against India A.

The 20-year-old, who can bowl at an average speed of 145kmph, had taken six wickets in three tour matches against Zimbabwe, South Africa A and India A in the past month.

The right-arm bowler, who had missed out on the last two Australian domestic seasons following back and foot injuries, made his Test debut in 2011 against South Africa at Johannesburg. He was also sent home from Australia’s one-day tour of England, mid last year due to a side strain.

Australia A’s physiotherapist Kevin Sims was quoted by NDTV SPORTS as saying: “Pat reported some left rib and back pain during the Australia A game against India A last week. With only Wednesday’s final remaining in the series, the decision was made for him to return to Australia to assess the injury.”

The New South Wales bowler has just made six first class appearances in three years due to his long list of injuries.
