Kevin Pietersen took the blame for making the wrong call at the toss

Delhi Daredevils‘ skipper Kevin Pietersen has taken the blame upon himself for the defeat against Rajasthan Royals on Thursday. The English cricketer admitted that it was a wrong decision to invite the opponent team to bat after winning the toss.

“I will hold my hand up and say that I got the toss wrong. We should have batted first as the pitch got slower and shot-making was a lot difficult,” Pietersen said after the match.

DD, who is placed at the bottom of the points table, is out of contention for a play-off spot, but would like to get some wins under its belt. Now that they are officially out of this tournament, DD has all the room to experiment with their batting and bowling style. “We tried a few different things but they didn’t work out. We need to keep doing the simple things right and if you do it right you can change things around.” Pietersen said.

On the other hand, the winning captain, Shane Watson agreed that Pietersen had got it wrong at the toss and said, “It was an outstanding performance. It was perfect from the boys. They played beautifully. I wanted to bat if I had won the toss.”

“I expected the pitch to slow up. Everyone bowled to their plans and executed it well. We like to target the opposition, the players we know. Hopefully, we carry it onto the business end.” he added.

One of RR’s crucial players, Ajinkya Rahane, who has scored 316 runs so far, was happy with his contribution for the team. “I really enjoyed batting on this wicket. But the wicket was slightly slow after the first six overs. We did not really talk about targets during the time-out,” he said.

“We just wanted to back ourselves. Whoever is set in the middle, we wanted that guy to bat through. It was my turn today and I am happy with my performance.” he concluded.
