IPL 2016: Ashish Nehra undergoes successful knee operation

Ashish Nehra has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League due to a hamstring injury

The left-arm medium pacer, Ashish Nehra, of the Sunrisers Hyderabad was injured during the match against Kings XI Punjab on May 15, when he pulled up while running in to bowl. He was ruled out of the tournament and has undergone a surgery on his right knee.

Nehra underwent a surgery on Tuesday to repair a high-grade tendon injury, in London, under the supervision of Dr. Andrew Williams, an orthopedic specialist. Injuries seem to be a hindrance in his career again, as he missed four matches at the start of this year’s Indian Premier League, with a groin injury.

The 37-year-old pace bowler was one of the most important bowlers for Sunrisers, picking up nine wickets from eight matches at an average of 22.11 and an economy rate of 7.65. He played a crucial role for the team, and his absence has clearly reflected in his team’s performance.

Hence, Sunrisers, who were once the table-toppers, finished third in the league stage, with 16 points.

His best bowling figures of 3/15 came against Mumbai Indians on 7 May, when he dismissed Rohit Sharma, Ambati Rayudu and Jos Buttler. Most people fear that this injury might well be the end of his cricketing career, which indeed is unlucky given the form he was coming into.

The fast-bowler has become a cult figure in recent times proving that age is nothing but a number. It was his brilliant last over against Rising Pune Supergiants, where he scalped the wickets of Indian captain MS Dhoni and Adam Zampa to guide his team to a crucial four-run win.

This year had been termed as the renaissance of Nehra, as he had been in remarkable form until his untimely injury and had picked up 28 wickets in 25 innings, at an economy of 7.24 in the T20 format. His injury did upset a lot of people in the cricketing fraternity. Here are some tweets:
