IPL 2016: Dwayne Bravo fined for dissent
Gujarat Lions all-rounder, Dwayne Bravo has been fined for showing dissent at a decision made by the umpire during the Lions’ match against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday. Bravo was reprimanded by the match referee following his caught behind dismissal during the Indian Premier League (IPL) match.
“Bravo admitted to the level 1 offence (Article 2.1.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials) and accepted the sanction,” an IPL release said.
The all-rounder from Trinidad picked up one wicket in the Lions’ third consecutive win of the IPL. The wicket took Bravo's IPL wickets tally to 6 wickets in 3 games, thus making him the holder of the purple cap.
During the Gujarat Lions batting innings, Bravo was given out caught behind by wicketkeeper, Parthiv Patel off the bowling of Jasprit Bumrah for a score of just 2 off 6 balls. Replays suggested that there was nothing on the Snickometer, which led to Bravo's reaction at the decision made by the umpire.
Bravo has been the winner of the purple cap in two earlier seasons when he picked up 26 wickets in the 2015 IPL season and 32 wickets in the 2013 season. The 32-year-old will be looking to win the purple cap for the third time. Going by the current form of the Lions, it seems like Bravo will have a good chance at winning the title.
During the current season of the IPL, Bravo reached a milestone that no other bowler did when he picked up his 300th wicket in T20 history. Maintaining the level of consistency that Bravo has since the start of his T20 career is something that cannot be easily emulated. His slower balls are one of the most difficult to manoeuvre for any batsman and usually ends up giving him wickets.
The Lions play their next game on April 21 against a struggling Sunrisers Hyderabad at Rajkot.
