IPL 2016: Gautam Gambhir believes KKR's destiny is in their own hands

It was a tough day in the office for Gambhir & Co against Gujarat Lions

Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir has reportedly expressed his displeasure over the team's loss against Gujarat Lions on Thursday. The southpaw feels that they would now have to play better cricket if they want to progress to the playoffs. Owing to their defeat, KKR have slipped to 4th on the points table and are currently unsure of a spot among the final four who will be in contention for the title.

Speaking after the match, Gambhir said, "You turn up to win a game and destiny is in our own hands. We have to play good cricket if we have to win the tournament." The Knight Riders had been performing brilliantly for most of the tournament but their form has suffered a jolt as they have lost back-to-back matches against RCB and GL.

The distraught skipper rued the fact that the batsmen failed to put on a decent score on the board. "It was a decent wicket. We could have scored 150-160. When you end up with 124 it is difficult to restrict the opposition. It was one of those days where nothing worked for us," Gambhir stated.

The Kolkata team face a tough test in their last match of the league stage as they take on table-toppers Sunrisers Hyderabad in a game that they have to win in order to have any chances of making it to the playoffs. To add to their woes, they may still have to depend on the result of the other matches despite registering a win against SRH.

Gautam Gambhir has been KKR's leading run-scorer in the tournament with 457 runs so far and he will be looking to lead from the front to ensure that they make it to the playoffs.
