IPL 2016: Pravin Tambe says he will retire when he does not contribute to the game

Pravin Tambe is the second oldest cricketer playing in the IPl at 44

Even at the age of 44, Pravin Tambe is still going strong in the IPL. In an interview with the Times of India, Tambe spoke about his fitness and retirement plans.

He made his debut at 41 for the Rajasthan Royals in 2013 and is currently playing his fourth IPL with the new franchise Gujarat Lions. He seems to be getting younger with each passing day, considering his current form and fitness.

"I treat every game as my last game," the 'young man' said simply, adding, "I am playing for big teams. I don't want to let them down due to my age. I aim to give 100 percent in all three departments of the game, every time."

Tambe has made a few changes in his diet and lifestyle to keep pace with the youngsters in the IPL.

"I have cut down on carbs and added protein in my diet. I have limited rice and vada  intake. But I do cheat once in a while, I can't quit vada ," Tambe, a true Mumbaikar, disclosed.

He discloses that his secret to fitness is to play the game as much as he can throughout the week. It helps him stay fit and also improve his game.

"I don't skip a single match. All week long, either I play for my club or my employer to keep myself up to the mark. When not on the field, I hit the gym," he disclosed.

He also revealed that he will retire from the game when he feels he can't contribute any longer.

In his three-year long IPL career for the Rajasthan Royals, he was one of their most consistent bowler picking up 23 wickets in 26 matches. In the Champions League T20 2013, he finished as the leading wicket-taker, with 12 wickets at an average of 6.5.
