IPL 2016: Ravindra Jadeja reprimanded for showing dissent during Gujarat Lions' loss

Ravindra Jadeja in action against Kings XI Punjab

The 27-year-old India international, Ravindra Jadeja has been reprimanded by the match referee after the Gujarat Lions all-rounder had shown dissent at the umpire’s decision as his side took on the Kings XI Punjab at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot, earlier yesterday.

According to a formal statement given by an Indian Premier League official, “Mr. (Ravindra) Jadeja admitted to the level 1 offence (Article 2.1.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials) and accepted the sanction.”

It wasn’t an ideal day at the office for the table-toppers, Gujarat Lions as the Suresh Raina-led side was dealt a 23-run defeat at the hands of the Kings XI Punjab who are currently still marooned at the bottom of the league table despite their convincing victory over the Rajkot-based IPL franchise.

After having put up a decent 154 runs on the scoreboard thanks to captain, Murali Vijay’s brilliant knock of 55 runs off just 41 deliveries, it was Axar Patel who stole the show for the Kings XI Punjab during their stint with the ball.

The 22-year-old slow left-arm spinner had finished with final bowling figures of 4-0-21-4 which included a match-winning hat-trick.

The hat-trick featured the wickets of Dinesh Karthik, Dwayne Bravo and Ravindra Jadeja respectively which undoubtedly tilted the match in favor of the Mohali-based IPL franchise.

Ravindra Jadeja was batting on 11 when he was given out by one of the umpires, Virender Sharma after the batsman tentatively edged an Axar Patel-delivery only to be caught by the Kings XI Punjab wicket-keeper, Wriddhiman Saha.

However, the 27-year-old Indian all-rounder wasn’t quite happy when he was directed to return to the pavilion. Ravindra Jadeja, not only indicated to the umpire that he hadn’t nicked the ball but he even didn’t shy away from expressing his disappointment which acted as a catalyst behind the 27-year-old’s punishment.

According to the official site of the Indian Premier League, “For Level 1 breaches of the IPL Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.”

Gujarat Lions still at the top despite loss

The ‘Men in Orange’ have successfully retained their position at the top of the Indian Premier League table despite their 23-run loss against the Kings XI Punjab at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium.

Gujarat Lions, currently, have 12 points in their kitty after having played 8 matches and are a couple of points ahead of the second-placed Mumbai Indians (10 points from a possible 18).
