IPL 2016, Stats: Amit Mishra spins a web as Daredevils decimate Kings XI

Amit Mishra left the Kings XI batsmen clueless with his impeccable control

Delhi Daredevils have been perennially viewed as one of the lighter sides in the IPL. After getting humbled by Kolkata Knight Riders in their opening match, the Zaheer Khan-led team bounced back in spectacular fashion at the Feroz Shah Kotla.

The veteran pacer won the toss on a tricky surface and decided to bowl first. Despite a strong start from Manan Vohra, Kings XI Punjab lost their way in the middle overs as Amit Mishra came to the fore.

The wrist-spinner imparted extravagant flight on the cricket ball which confounded the Punjab batsmen to no end. In the end, they could only post a meager total which was chased with ease by the Daredevils.

Let us take a look at the key statistics from the engrossing encounter in Delhi.

1 – Number of batsmen who have a better batting average in the IPL than Shaun Marsh’s 41.34. When a criteria of minimum 1000 runs is applied, only Chris Gayle has been more consistent than Marsh across all editions.

1 – Totals less than Punjab’s 111/9 at the Feroz Shah Kotla by teams who have played the full quota of 20 overs. Chennai Super Kings made 110/8 against the Daredevils in 2012.

2 – Kings XI Punjab were the only side who got beaten by the Daredevils twice in the same season during the previous three editions of the league.

3 –  Occasions when teams have defended totals less than 165 from 24 such attempts at the Kotla in all IPL matches.

4 – Instances of a bowler taking four wickets or more in an IPL match. Amit Mishra joined the likes of Ravindra Jadeja and Lakshmipathy Balaji to sit third on the all-time list.

12 – The number of times that Murali Vijay has been run out in all editions of the IPL. He overtook Gautam Gambhir and Venugopal Rao to take the ignominious record.

12 – Highest number of LBW dismissals created by a bowler in the IPL. Coming into the match with eleven such instances, Mishra drew level with Piyush Chawla after trapping David Miller in front.

19 – The maximum number of stumpings induced by a bowler in the league. When Mishra outwitted Shaun Marsh, he extended his lead at the top of this chart.

92 – The lowest total in IPL for any team without losing all 10 wickets. Kings XI Punjab came close to beating their own record which came against the Super Kings at Durban in 2009.

100 – Mishra became the latest player to complete 100 matches in the tournament. Apart from the Daredevils, he had also played for Sun Risers Hyderabad and the now defunct Deccan Chargers.

116 – The most number of wickets taken by a spinner across all seasons of the IPL. Mishra went past his erstwhile teammates Harbhajan Singh and Chawla with a four-wicket haul.
