IPL 2016, Stats: Axar Patel bowls Kings XI Punjab to 23-run win over Gujarat Lions

Axar Patel became the first player to pick up a hat-trick this IPL season

In the Indian Premier League (IPL) match between the top-placed, Gujarat Lions and the bottom-placed, Kings XI Punjab, the Murali Vijay-led Punjab side won just their second match of the season after an all-round performance with both bat and ball.

After having been put into bat, Vijay led from the front to score a valuable half-century to help his side post a total of 154 in 20 overs. Chinaman bowler, Shivil Kaushik had a better game for the Gujarat Lions as he picked up three important wickets.

Gujarat Lions, who have chased well so far this season, failed to get a good start from their dashing openers. All-rounder, Axar Patel bowled a scintillating spell as he picked up three wickets in one over to help hand the Lions their second defeat of the season.

Here are the major stats from the game:

1 –  Axar Patel became the first bowler to pick up a hat-trick this IPL season. This is also the third hat-trick for a Kings XI Punjab player. The first two were taken by Yuvraj Singh.

1 – KC Cariappa was the only bowler to get a two-over spell during the course of the entire Punjab bowling innings.

01/05 – On May 1, 2009, Yuvraj Singh became the first person to pick up a hat-trick for Kings XI Punjab in the IPL. On May 1, 2016, Axar Patel picked up the third hat-trick for Kings XI Punjab.

3 – Murali Vijay became the third player to make a 50-plus score on captaincy debut in the IPL. Adam Gilchrist and Aaron Finch are the other two players to have achieved the same feat.

3/20 - Shivil Kaushik's bowling figures are the third best for any chinaman bowler in the IPL. Brad Hogg has the two best bowling figures.

4/21 – Axar Patel's bowling figures were the fourth-best for any Kings XI Punjab bowler in the IPL.

8 – Mohit Sharma has picked up eight wickets in the last five overs of the innings in the IPL this season. This is the most for any player.

9 – Murali Vijay became the ninth player to captain the Kings XI Punjab side. This is the most for any IPL team, along with Delhi Daredevils.

14 – Axar Patel's hat-trick was the 14th of the IPL.

17 – Ravindra Jadeja conceded 17 runs in his first over of the match. This was the highest he has conceded in a powerplay over in the IPL.

36 – Gujarat Lions made only 36 runs in the powerplay. This was the least they made this IPL.

100 – Dwayne Smith became the seventh overseas player and the 15th overall to cross the landmark of hitting 100 sixes in the IPL.

147 – The number of balls that Praveen Kumar bowled in this IPL before picking up his first wicket. This is the second most for any bowler in the IPL, after Bhuvneshwar Kumar had bowled 159 balls in 2012.
