IPL 2016 - Stats: Ice cool Nehra takes SRH to narrow victory over RPSG
While Sunrisers Hyderabad are poised to seal a place in the play-offs, Rising Pune Supergiants are going through a torrid phase and need a miracle to say afloat in the competition.
Things began promisingly for the Supergiants when the dangerous David Warner perished cheaply and the slower bowlers began to apply the brakes. Unheralded Aussie spinner Adam Zampa turned out to be the surprise package as he pierced the Sunrisers with a six-wicket haul.
Chasing only 138, Pune had a horrific start with the top-order unable to deal with Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s extravagant swing. However, George Bailey and Ravichandran Ashwin steadied the ship with some gritty batting. When the equation boiled down to 14 runs off the last over, Ashish Nehra fought off a rampaging Dhoni as the curtains fell on the Supergiants.
Let us take a look at the most interesting statistics from the tantalizing encounter.
0 – Matches won by teams in this IPL who opted to bat first upon winning the toss, before this contest. It was a brave call by skipper Warner to buck the chasing trend and his team did exactly that.
1 – Number of leg-spinners to have 6 wickets in any T20 match. Adam Zampa became the first wrist-spinner to achieve this feat with a brilliant performance.
1 – Zampa registered the best ever figures by an Australian bowler in T20s. He went past Tasmanian all-rounder Michael Dighton’s spell of 6-25 in a domestic match.
2 – Six-wicket hauls by bowlers in the IPL. Zampa’s stunning spell of 6-19 is only the second such effort after Pakistan seamer Sohail Tanvir’s 6-14 in the inaugural edition.
6 – Spin bowlers who have taken five wickets or more in an IPL match. Zampa joins an illustrious list containing Anil Kumble, Amit Mishra, Harbhajan Singh, Ravindra Jadeja and Sunil Narine.
11 – Runs scored by David Warner in two matches against the Supergiants. Ashok Dinda claimed his wicket for a zero in the earlier game while RP Singh snared him for 11 at Vizag.
12 – Sixes smashed by Warner in the second over of an IPL match. It is the second highest alongside Adam Gilchrist with Chris Gayle leading the list with 15 such hits.
29 – Ravichandran Ashwin posted his highest score in the IPL. The tall cricketer went past the 23 that he had scored for Chennai Super Kings against Mumbai Indians in 2015.
44 – Total runs added by Hyderabad openers which is their second lowest in this IPL. Both Warner and Shikhar Dhawan had managed only 19 runs between them against KKR.
50 – T20 matches played by Usman Khawaja in his career. The stylish Australian batsman did not get to celebrate his milestone after being run-out for just 11.
59 – Combined runs scored by both teams from the first six overs. While Sunrisers managed 35 runs, the Supergiants could only score 24 which made it the lowest in this IPL.
137 – Sunrisers defended the lowest total in this IPL by eclipsing Kings XI Punjab’s defense of 154 against Gujarat Lions.
200 – Sixes for MS Dhoni in all T20 matches. The veteran finisher became the fifth Indian batsman to reach the landmark after Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh and Yusuf Pathan.
444 – Career runs for Ashwin from 189 T20s before this match. In a surprising move, the off-spinner was promoted to number 4 by the Supergiants.
